I wrote a little blurb about Katniss and Peeta making their memory book and wanted to share bc they are just so precious to me. Hope y’all like it!
He writes about me, describing things I didn’t even notice about myself: how my eyebrows furrow, how I sing to myself, how I look around when I’m afraid or tense. I make him come to life on the pages, describing how he smiles sideways, the dimples on his chin and cheek, the way he fiddles with things when he’s talking.
Some may call it narcissistic to dedicate pages to ourselves, but when we’re gone, we want to be immortalized in the manner everyone else in this book is: by someone we loved. Not by the history books, where we will be victors and rebels and revolutionaries, not by the gossip, where we are lovers who happened to be fighters, but as us, Katniss and Peeta. Lovers of sunsets and songs, holders of stories, two people who lived and loved and persevered.
Peeta: Dandelions symbolise everything I want to be in life!
Haymitch: Fluffy and dead with a gust of wind?
Peeta: Unapologetic. Hard to kill. Feral, filled with sunlight, bright, beautiful in a way that the conventional and controlling hate but cannot ever fully destroy. Stubborn. Happy. Bastardous. Friends with bees. Highly disapproving of lawns. Full of wishes that will be carried far after I die.
Katniss: Edible
i keep thinking about the scene in catching fire where peeta hits the forcefield and his heart stops, particularly how katniss reacts to the whole thing. we know later from her conversations with finnick in mockingjay that this was the moment that he realized she truly loved peeta, and we can infer from katniss that this is when snow realized it as well. it's such a poignant scene because we as the readers can hear katniss' thoughts - especially her panic over not hearing peeta's heartbeat when she lays her head on his chest on the spot where she sleeps - but finnick and snow and everyone watching don't hear that. the scene hits because, as haymitch later points out, katniss is impactful when she's not being instructed. her entire relationship with peeta through the hunger games and the first half of catching fire is scripted, for the cameras, and perceptive people can tell it's not entirely genuine. but in that moment in the arena, there are no cameras, no games, just a very scared girl faced with the painfully stark reality that this boy she has come to rely on, to need, and yes, to love, is dead, and she reacts so genuinely that she expresses how strong her love is for peeta when she isn't even aware of it herself. and i really think that this is the point of no return for katniss - that no matter how confusing her feelings are for peeta, from this point on you know she will choose him. without him, she's stuck in the arena forever, with no one to wake her from the nightmare. and it's all wrapped up in this one small scene in the exact middle of the series - the center point between katniss falling for peeta and coming to terms with it.
obsessed with prim getting the mockingjay pin under the promise it'll protect her and then she gets fucking reaped. and is promptly like i am NOT keeping this. katniss you have it
The only problematic thing with e-books is that after I’ve finished them I can’t put them on my trophy shelf, like a serial killer.
today’s tea is that El looked so much happier in the short mall scene with Max than she did in all of the scenes with her and Mike.
